solidariteitCaxton News Service reports that Solidarity has vowed to give its assistance in investigating the cause of the collapse at Lily Mine in Mpumalanga.

This comes after the trade union held meetings with the acting director general of the Department of Mineral Resources, David Msiza, and the management of Lily Mine on Wednesday and Thursday, the union said in a statement yesterday.  According to Gideon du Plessis, general secretary of Solidarity, “sensitive information” regarding the cause of the collapse that the union reportedly has in its possession would not be disclosed as yet.  “We have decided to deal with the information first as confidential as it is necessary in respect of the investigation.  We would thus also prevent the mine being closed down and hundreds of workers losing their jobs,” Du Plessis said.  He also indicated that the investigation into the collapse at the mine would be delayed if this information was disclosed.
