nedlacBDLive reports that the new executive director of the National Economic Development and Labour Council (Nedlac), Madoda Vilakazi, assumed his duties on Friday.

He replaces Alistair Smith and Mahandra Naidoo, who had been in the position in an acting capacity since Smith's resignation in 2014.  Vilakazi formerly worked within the trade union movement and the government, and has extensive experience in negotiation, budgeting and business management, Nedlac said on Friday.  The relevance Nedlac, formed as a forum for consensus between the government, business, labour and communities on social and economic policy, has been questioned after social partners have failed to reach consensus on key issues such as labour broking or, recently, retirement fund reform.
