amcu thumb medium80 81BDLive reports that the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (Amcu) will serve a notice to strike at Sibanye Gold headquarters on Monday.

Its workers are set to down tools on Wednesday over a wage dispute that gold producers concluded with other mining unions six months ago.  Amcu held a mass meeting at Sibanye’s Driefontein mine on Sunday, where it resolved to down tools indefinitely until its demand for a R12,500 monthly wage was met.  Sibanye spokesman James Wellsted said on Sunday the company had not received formal communication about a strike.  He indicated that Sibanye would not restart wage talks, and feedback from employees had indicated little appetite for strike action.  Amcu represents about 40% of Sibanye’s 45,000-strong workforce, although the union maintains it is in the majority.
