angloamerican fullBloomberg reports that Anglo American Platinum (Amplats) has reduced the number of job cuts tied to restructuring at its Union mine and Twickenham project by 85% as it moves workers to other projects.

Fewer than 300 workers at the two operations are now expected to lose their jobs, said Amplats spokesperson Mpumi Sithole.  She indicated that as part of a consultation required by law, the company agreed with unions and employees on measures to limit losses, including redeployment.  The platinum producer had said in February that as many as 2,000 workers could be made redundant.
