nelsonmandelabayHeraldLive reports that a full-blown municipal strike is looming in Nelson Mandela Bay, with the SA Municipal Workers’ Union (Samwu) threatening a complete shutdown of services this week across all departments.  

At the centre of the tussle is the fate of dozens of safety and security staff, who were fired or suspended for disrupting the metro police launch last month.  The union claims six staff were dismissed and 36 workers were suspended.  Although the mass action was set to start on Monday, the complete shutdown is likely to come into effect from Tuesday or Wednesday.  Independent Municipal and Allied Trade Union (Imatu) members will not participate.
