postoffice thumb100 BDLive reports that SA Post Office (Sapo) CE Mark Barnes on Monday said no retrenchments were being contemplated, but that the entity was putting together a package for voluntary early retirement.  

Barnes stated:  "No retrenchments are being contemplated, it is not on the table at all  The current post office turnaround is based on a revenue-growth strategy, not a cost-cutting strategy.  It is self evident if we do not succeed we may need to cut jobs."  Earlier on Monday, the Information Communication Union of SA said Barnes had told union leaders that retrenchments at Sapo were imminent.  The union’s Desmond Moeketsi said it wanted its members to be taught how to better handle their pensions‚ before they were offered early retirement.
