metrorail thumb medium90 92eNCA reports that violent protests in Tshwane have disrupted train services between Cordelfos and Kalafong, Metrorail said on Tuesday.  

Protest action erupted in the capital city on Monday in various townships which resulted in the burning of buses and closing of roads.  Metrorail said protesters at Kalafong put stones on the railway line, making it impossible to run trains safely.  “Metrorail took the decision to suspend the services on this corridor to protect commuters, employees and assets,” the train company said in a statement.  Train services in De Wildt, Mabopane and Mamelodi Corridor continue to run.  Meanwhile, bus operator Putco said it was redirecting certain operations and putting contingency measures in place.
