popcruNews24 reports that the Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union (Popcru) said on Tuesday that Parliament must urgently pass a law that disqualifies people charged with killing police officers from getting bail.

Popcru's Western Cape secretary Mncedisi Mbolekwa was speaking at a memorial service for slain Cape Town Constable Mthetho Sandla in Delft on Tuesday.  Sandla was killed in an attempted robbery at a Caltex garage in Delft on 13 June.  His killers are still at large.  Western Cape Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Khombinkosi Jula noted that six police officers had been attacked in the province since he took office four months ago.  Vowing that police would do all they could to find and arrest Sandla's killers, he said:  "We have a serious challenge in the Western Cape."
