sapu thumb medium80 79HeraldLive reports that the South African Policing Union (SAPU) has called for Port Elizabeth’s top police officer, who is accused in a domestic violence case, to be suspended.

The union claims Major-General Dawie Rabie is intimidating and threatening lower-ranked officers to get the case withdrawn.  Union members have also revealed that Rabie was at the centre of several other internal investigations following a series of grievances laid against him over the past year.  A criminal case was opened against Rabie by his wife and family earlier this week, in addition to an internal probe set to be initiated into alleged misconduct and abuse of power.  The criminal case had been handed over to the provincial police head office.
