uberBDLive reports that app-based taxi service Uber has questioned the decision by some partner drivers to affiliate themselves with the SA Transport and Allied Workers’ Union (Satawu).

More than 500 partner-drivers approached the union recently with the view of taking the company to court over "unfair pricing, exploitation and refusal to recognise drivers as employees".  The drivers are seeking Satawu membership to "protect" themselves and stop Uber from continuing its "exploitative behaviour".  Uber spokeswoman Samantha Allenberg said the "drivers on the Uber platform in SA are diverse in how they use the platform and it would be difficult to see how a third party could represent their interests".
