amcu thumb medium80 81BDLive reports that the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (Amcu) has again tabled a demand for a monthly R12,500 basic minimum salary in forthcoming talks in the platinum mining sector.

The existing three-year wage deals between Amcu and Lonmin, Anglo American Platinum (Amplats) and Impala Platinum (Implats) expired at the end of June.  Negotiations for new agreements will begin with Implats on 12 July, Lonmin on 13 July and Amplats on 14 July.  It is also possible that Sibanye Gold will enter the negotiations as last year it agreed to purchase Amplats’ Rustenburg platinum assets.  Apart from the minimum wage demand, the union will be seeking increases of about 15% for higher categories and in respect of allowances.  Other demands are for a R6,500 housing allowance and a R2,000 transport allowance.
