NMMUTMG Digital reports that Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU) has been shut down by the South African Students’ Congress (Sasco)‚ which embarked on a mass protest on Monday morning.

Sasco said in a statement that the decision was informed by an assessment made regarding issues that affected the general student populace‚ the children of the working class in particular‚ and exploited workers at the university.  Sasco said it was dissatisfied with the processes so far in respect of the task teams set up in November 2015 to address issues raised in terms of the #FeesMustFall campaign.  Among the outstanding concerns were “the university saying it was in-sourcing workers but still denying them basic benefits like their previous employer had” and "the deliberate delaying of in-sourcing, in order to de-motivate workers”.
