tshwane thumb100 TMG Digital reports that Autopax bus services in Mamelodi‚ which had to be suspended when 19 buses were torched in violence related to the ANC mayoral contest in the capital‚ resumed on Thursday.

In a statement, it was noted that the Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport “entered into a contract with Autopax to render continuity of services in some parts of Mamelodi after the Putco contract came to an end in 2015”.  That handover‚ in July last year‚ proved troublesome for Autopax when taxi drivers attacked its buses when it commenced operating eight routes in the area.  In June this year‚ the Autopax buses were amongst the first assets to be destroyed in the protests which gripped Tshwane following the ruling party’s choice of outsider Thoko Didiza as candidate for the mayorship.
