platinumbarAhead of the imminent commencement of wage negotiations in respect of Anglo American Platinum (Amplats), Impala Platinum (Implats) and Lonmin, Warren Dick distills the facts relating to the processes in a question and answer format.  

Sibanye will be involved as it recently acquired by Aquarius Resources and will no doubt be consulted as it is in the process of acquiring Amplats’ Rustenburg operations.  The Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (Amcu) as the largest union will wield the most power, followed by the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) and the smaller unions, UASA (United Association of SA) and Solidarity.  This report also looks at the increases and benefits being sought.  The NUM is still in the process of consolidating the demands for the Aquarius mine, which will be presented shortly to management, and new owners, Sibanye.  The billion rand question relates to affordability.
