southafricalogoTimesLive reports that an expert witness has detailed how the temporary bridge over the M1 in Sandton that collapsed in October last year was riddled with deviations, discrepancies and failed a scaffolding design compliance test.

Testifying at the labour department inquiry into the accident in Pretoria on Thursday, Garry Farrow, who investigated the cause of the collapse for scaffolding supplier Form-Scaff, suggested the structure was a disaster waiting to happen because it was nothing like the design drawings.  Form-Scaff and Murray & Roberts are blaming each other for the collapse that killed two people and injured 19 others.  Murray & Roberts has argued the collapse was due to inferior material, while Form-Scaff has argued that what was erected was not in the drawings.
