durbanDaily News reports that Durban Transport commuters had to make other transport arrangements on Monday morning as the bus strike continued into its fifth day.

The strike – the second this year – is believed to be over a pay dispute.  A member of the SA Transport and Allied Workers’ Union (Satawu) indicated that the municipality, the union and bus operator Tansnat would meet at the Durban central bus depot on Monday morning.  Work stoppages are nothing new at the bus service.  Drivers were not paid in December and did not receive bonuses.  In protest, they blockaded roads with buses.  Last year, commuters were left stranded when bus depots ran out of fuel.
