ancFin24 reports that 106 African National Congress (ANC) councillors in six major metropolitan areas are set to lose their jobs following the results in this year's local government elections.  

The ruling party has suffered losses in the elections as its national support plunged from 61.9%% in 2011 to 53.91% in 2016, according to IEC data.  Despite the ANC having an overall national majority, final results indicate that the ANC has either lost or failed to secure over 50% support in five of South Africa‚Äôs six major metropolitan areas.  The only major city where the ANC secured over 50% of the vote this year was eThekwini.  This report goes on to give a breakdown of the results in each of the metros.
