GEMSNetwerk24 reports that the giant state medical aid scheme Gems (Government Employees Medical Scheme) will be building a new head office at a cost of almost R200-million.

Dr Guni Goolab, head of Gems, said that the fund expects to move into the new building in October 2018.  Gems is currently renting offices in the Hillcrest Office Park in Pretoria.  Gems also has regional offices.  The address of the new head office is not publicly known, but it will be some 10 km away from the present offices.  Goolab said that Gems would save R11-million annually as a result it having its own offices on which it does not have to pay rent.
