numsaOn Friday, the National Union of Metalworkers of SA (Numsa) issued a statement indicating that at its Central Committee (CC) meeting held from 24 to 28 July 2017 the “looming” strike in the metal and engineering industries sector was considered.

This was amongst several items on the agenda.  The CC resolved “to take the full debate about the status of the current negotiations, including the possibility of a strike to regional shop steward councils and general meetings.  Any way forward will be determined by our members.”  The union will apparently convene a national meeting to consider the outcomes of the general meetings which will determine the way forward about the future of negotiations in the sector.   In the near future the union will be convening a press conference to advise on all matters resolved by the CC.
