durbanIndependent on Saturday reports that thousands of young adults hoping to become eThekwini metro police descended on Pinetown’s Lahee Park on Friday as the unit looked to fill vacancies for the first time in a decade.

Spokesperson Senior Superintendent Parboo Sewpersad said that by 15h00 about 10,000 applications had been received.  About 200 successful applicants would be employed soon, a further 200 in February and the same number in August and February 2019.  The applicants were responding to a modest advert in the municipality’s weekly Metro publication, and the process will last until 3 November.  “In the rush, many are not completing their applications properly.  That’s how much people are hungry for jobs,” said Sewpersad.  Many people were told to go home and take their time to get their CVs done properly or it could jeopardise their applications.
