amcu thumb medium80 81eNCA reports that charges have been dropped against the two men arrested in connection with the killing of Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (Amcu) officials in Marikana.

In October, the union requested an urgent meeting with Police Minister Fikile Mbalula to urge him to fast-track the prosecution of those responsible for all the murders in the area since 2012.  But, one of the men implicated in the murders, expelled Amcu member Zithobile Mangqo, said they were innocent and claimed instead that Amcu president Joseph Mathunjwa had something to do with the killings.  “The workers are fighting amongst each other because of who they’re supporting.  These rifts are caused by the union president and Dumisani, the organiser,” he claimed.  He went on to state:  "But now we’ve been vindicated, as the charges against us have been withdrawn.  We have evidence that he’s (Mathunjwa’s) behind the death of Amcu leaders.”
