News24 reports that former Cosatu general secretary Zwelinzima Vavi was found not guilty of speeding in the Edenvale Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.
Magistrate Krish Naidoo said that the accuracy of the equipment used to determine the speed he was driving could be called into question. Vavi said that he was happy that he wasn't found guilty and that he was not afraid of any damage to his reputation. Vavi was apprehended on 4 October 2015 allegedly speeding on the R24 in Edenvale, Ekurhuleni. Evidence from one of the traffic officers was that Vavi’s silver-grey Audi Q7 was first travelling at 178km/h in a 120km/h zone. The officer alleged that his speed then increased to 182km/h as Vavi changed lanes.
