freemarketfoundationBusiness Report writes that the Free Market Foundation (FMF) has lost its court challenge seeking to force the Labour Minister to alter some aspects of the collective bargaining system in South Africa.

On Wednesday, the High Court in Pretoria dismissed the FMF’s litigation which was opposed by government, 47 bargaining councils, Cosatu, the National Union of Metalworkers (Numsa) and the SA Clothing and Textile Workers’ Union (Sactwu).  The foundation had wanted the court to amend section 32 of the Labour Relations Act (LRA), which relates to the labour minister powers to extend collective barging agreements to non-parties.
