SABC News writes that some North West local municipalities do not comply with Health & Safety Regulations, often with devastating consequences for some of their employees.
One of those municipalities is the Ventersdorp local municipality, which has consistently failed to comply with the provisions of the Health & Safety Regulations. Last month it was fined R10,000 after the Department of Labour in the province took the municipality to court. But the SA Municipal Workers’ Union (Samwu) says the fine is not enough to reduce non-compliance and workers at Ventersdorp allege nothing has changed. Efforts to get comment from the Provincial Department of Local Government were not successful.
