Business Report writes that Mteto Nyati, CE of MTN South Africa, said last week the company was looking at a process of equalising the pay and benefits of temporary workers with those of its permanent staff.
The company has initiated engagements with interested parties such as unions on implementing the plans. Nyati said: “I don’t know what the outcome of the engagement will be but we want temporary employees to be paid equally.” MTN also said it was involved in wage talks with the Communication Workers Union (CWU) to avoid the repeat of the strike over bonuses that rocked the company last year. The CWU has since been recognised by the company, although most of the 5,000 employees are not members of the union.
