The Citizen reports that the Gauteng Department of Health said on Tuesday it has fired six officials for various transgressions.
The dismissals followed investigations into allegations of fraud and misconduct at various provincial hospitals. Two officials were fired at Tembisa Tertiary Hospital for allegedly stealing medicine valued at R36,000. The other four officials were dismissed for other misdemeanours, such as accepting a position for which the official had not applied. An administrative clerk was relieved of her duties at Dr George Mukhari Academic Hospital in Ga-Rankuwa for allegedly paying another employee for overtime worked without following due process.
