SABC News reports that the national broadcaster and the Communications Workers Union (CWU) have concluded their salary increment and substantive negotiations for the current financial year.
The report indicates as follows: “Both parties have reached an agreement of a 7% salary increment and the ex gratia payment that will be paid out at the end of this quarter, however, this payment is subject to the good performance of the organisation.” The agreement is applicable to all CWU members and non-unionised employees and will be implemented at the end of May 2016, backdated from April 2016. The parties have also agreed on a moratorium on retrenchments in 2016. Negotiations with the other union, the Broadcast, Electronic Media and Allied Workers’ Union (Bemawu) are still on-going.
