strike thumb medium85 85The New Age reports that Gauteng taxi operators will embark on a go-slow today (Monday) and have threatened a full-blown industry-wide strike if police officers continue to impound their vehicles.

This comes as more than 290 taxis were impounded since the start of Operation Ke Molao (it’s the law), aimed at clamping down on lawlessness and fatalities on Gauteng roads.  At least 20 taxi drivers were arrested for driving without permits.  “If the police continue to impound taxis from Wednesday we will embark on a huge strike,” spokesperson for the National Taxi Alliance Theo Malele said on Sunday.  The Road Traffic Management Corporation on Sunday vowed to continue with the operation despite the threat of a taxi strike.
