mosebenzizwaneSABC News reports that Mineral Resources Minister Mosebenzi Zwane has told management at Impala Platinum Mine that his ministry will leave no stone unturned in determining the cause of fatal accidents at the platinum producer.

Last Tuesday a rock fall incident at Impala Platinum Mine left one miner dead, while his colleague remains trapped underground.  This is the second fatal accident in four months, following the January incident in which four miners died when a fire broke out in another shaft.  During a visit, Zwane said:  "We call upon the entire mining sector in the country to continue to take safety matters seriously and increase them."  The Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (Amcu) has criticised Impala for the recurrence of accidents that often lead to fatalities.  The Chamber of Mines said it was equally disturbed by deaths in the mining industry.
