DCSHeraldLive reports that the Eastern Cape Department of Correctional Services (DCS) has warned job seekers not to fall prey to an ongoing scam.

DCS spokesman Zama Feni said more than 20 incidents of people being conned had been reported to the department since last year, although officials suspected that far more people had fallen victim to the scam.  The con artists call people and offer them a job at one of the correctional centres in return for cash, which is to be deposited at a retail store.  In some cases, victims have paid up to R6 000.  The scam involves several Correctional Centres, including St Albans in Port Elizabeth and centres in Sterkspruit, Mthatha and Grahamstown.  The DCS warned that, like any other state department, it did not sell any kind of a job.
