Fin24 reports that labour federation Cosatu on Tuesday postponed its planned strike against Metrorail and the City of Cape Town due to take place on Wednesday, after it was deemed illegal.
Cosatu had called a one-day strike to highlight grievances over poor Metrorail and bus services. Thousands of members were planning on holding a protest in front of Metrorail’s offices on the Foreshore in Cape Town. However, Cosatu provincial secretary Tony Ehrenreich said they had had to postpone the strike to protect members’ job security. He indicated that Cosatu would now be going on strike on 12 July 2016.
