The New Age reports that seven passengers who were injured in a collision between two Metrorail commuter trains in Wentworth, Durban, on Thursday are still receiving treatment in various hospitals.  

Transport Minister Dipuo Peters indicated that 120 passengers, including the two drivers, have been discharged after receiving treatment.  She also said that no technical faults in the trains had been detected as yet.  Preliminary findings suggest that human error was to blame for the collision.  The trains, which had been going in opposite directions, had been using the same line at the time of the collision.  It is suspected that an error by the traffic control officer could have led to the collision.  Last week’s accident was the latest in a series of train collisions around Durban in recent months.  According to a consultant and based on a recent Constitutional Court ruling, the victims of the accident could claim compensation from the Passenger Rail Agency of SA (Prasa) on the grounds of negligence.
