News24 reports that Parliament on Tuesday suspended with immediate effect the chairperson of the National Education Health and Allied Workers' Union (Nehawu) branch, Sthembiso Tembe, and a colleague, for disrupting a meeting and inciting workers.  

Tembe and fellow union member Michael Sithole allegedly disrupted a meeting staff were holding with secretary to Parliament, Gengezi Mgidlana, last week.  Workers had decided not to allow Mgidlana to speak unless he first addressed their issues.  These included salary deductions made as a result of a strike in November, which they claimed had not been reversed, and reduced performance scores.  Blaming Mgidlana for the breakdown in relations, Tembe said Parliament’s management should charge everyone at the meeting and not be selective.
