sabcTMG Digital reports that the disciplinary hearings against three SA Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) journalists who had been charged with misconduct started on Friday morning.

Meantime, about 100 journalists and activists picketed outside the SABC’s Auckland Park offices in Johannesburg to protest against the suspensions last week of Thandeka Gqubule‚ Foeta Krige and Suna Venter.  The three reportedly expressed their opposition to chief Hlaudi Motsoeneng’s orders not to cover an anti-censorship march at the SABC’s offices.  The picket also follows the sudden resignation of SABC acting CEO Jimi Matthews on Monday, who cited a "corrosive" atmosphere at the broadcaster.  Trade union Solidarity indicated on Thursday it would seek a postponement for two of its members, namely Krige and Venter.
