TMG Digital reports that Johannesburg Metrobus drivers have vowed to intensify their unprotected strike if the decision to outsource bus inspectors is not reversed.
This is according to a bus driver with long service. He said: "The biggest problem here is that the MD (Mavela Dlamini) wants to outsource the work for ticket examination from passengers. All these years there has been a promotion among the drivers, especially for inspection because they know the job very well." On Friday and Monday‚ commuters were left stranded as the drivers downed tools. The drivers apparently don’t have issues with salaries or wages. Yet, they were only informed last week Thursday by an unnamed manager that the inspection department would be outsourced. Metrobus representatives were unavailable to comment as they were in a meeting with SA Municipal Workers’ Union (Samwu) shop stewards, which represents the drivers.
