BDLive reports that the SA Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) is to take a ruling by the Independent Communications Authority of SA (Icasa) that it must within seven days withdraw its ban on the airing of destructive protest footage to court on review.  

SABC executives said on Monday that they would not be dictated to by "outsiders".  SABC chief operations officer Hlaudi Motsoeneng, in a media briefing reacting to the Icasa order, said "no one" would tell the broadcaster what to do.  "If we need to go to the Constitutional Court that is where the matter will end.  We are not going to change anything, people can forget it," he said.  Icasa council acting chairman Rubben Mohlaloga was adamant that Icasa’s finding was binding and could only be challenged in court.  Possible penalties for noncompliance were wide ranging and included a warning, a fine or the SABC’s licence being revoked.  A number of senior journalists at the broadcaster face disciplinary action for having questioned the ban.
