TMG Digital reports that Johannesburg Metrobus drivers are expected back at work on Wednesday morning after the union and the bus company reached an agreement.
City of Joburg spokesperson Virgil James said bus services in the city would resume following an offer for bus drivers to be trained to become inspectors within the one-year period that a private company, Tick Tec, has been contracted to render inspection services. On Monday‚ drivers said they were unhappy because having an outside company do the inspections limited their careers as they also aspired to be inspectors. The three-day Metrobus strike left thousands of commuters stranded as services were suspended on about 200 routes.
