cwu thumb medium90 95News24 reports that the Communication Workers Union (CWU) on Wednesday criticised the SA Communist Party (SACP) for joining protests against the SA Broadcasting Corporation (SABC).

The union said the party should remember its place in the alliance with the ANC and labour federation Cosatu.  The SACP broke ranks and protested in support of suspended journalists and accused the public broadcaster of “dictatorial apartheid-style censorship.”  The CWU’s Thami Mzileni said they “expect an organisation which is our vanguard as the working class to be at the forefront in defending our decisions as workers, but instead the SACP is going out there and ridiculing and supporting the decisions made by right-wing organisations.”  He called on the SACP to engage with the union.  Earlier, the CWU said it would rally behind SABC COO Hlaudi Motsoeneng because he had improved working conditions at the SABC.
