BDLive reports that the Commission for Conciliation Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) has ruled in Parliament’s favour in its drawn-out battle with union Nehawu over bonus payouts.  

Nehawu (National Education Health and Allied Workers Union) had demanded the payout of performance bonuses agreed to by Parliament’s administrators and the union to end a strike at the legislature last year   The union had demanded that parliamentary staff receive performance bonuses higher than the performance scores revised down by Secretary of Parliament Gengezi Mgidlana.  The CCMA said the employer had not perpetrated unfair labour practice as claimed by Nehawu and dismissed the union’s petition.  But, Nehawu has already announced plans for a "rolling mass action", including marches to Parliament over the labour impasse.  Parliament warned against the union’s planned industrial action, saying it would be "unjustified, baseless and illegal".
