BDLive reports that the SA Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) capitulated in court on Wednesday and agreed to withdraw its decision not to broadcast footage of the destruction of public property during violent protest action.  

In court counsel for the SABC, Bantubonke Tokota SC, said the SABC was prepared to abide by the interim interdicts sought by the Helen Suzman Foundation, provided the public broadcaster did not lose its ability to take independent editorial decisions as per its governing prescripts.  Counsel for the foundation, David Unterlhalter SC, said the order made by the court needed to be clear — so "there was no confusion in the future" — that the interdicts would prevail over any claimed "editorial independence carve-out".  The SABC this week sacked eight journalists for disagreeing with its decision to censor coverage of protests
