eskomFin24 reports that Paris Mashego, the National Union of Mineworkers’ (NUM’s) energy sector coordinator, says that Eskom will revisit its 7% wage increase and propose a new offer.

The power utility is apparently open to negotiations and has applied a so-called ‘Section 150’ intervention with the Commission for Conciliation Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) to find a quick resolution to the strike that the NUM members commenced on Monday at the power utility.  The NUM has called an urgent national shop steward council meeting, to be held on Tuesday, to discuss Eskom's decision to reconsider its 7% offer.  The council will then decide if the strike action would continue, given Eskom’s willingness to reconsider its offer.  The union is currently demanding a one year wage agreement, with a 12% to 13% increase, although the demand is negotiable.  Meanwhile, the National Union of Metalworkers of SA (Numsa) said it was mobilising all its members in Eskom after wage talks deadlocked.
