telkom thumb100 Business Report writes that Telkom on Monday afternoon secured an urgent interim court order interdicting and restraining CWU and its members from a number of illegal activities associated with the union’s current strike.

This comes as Telkom earlier said its workers who attempted to go to work in the midst of the strike were “aggressively intimidated”.  Telkom spokesperson Jacqui O’Sullivan indicated that there had been a blockade at one of Telkom’s campus yards which was accompanied by shoving and threats of violence.  The dispute is over a wage agreement, with the CWU (Communication Workers Union) demanding that Telkom implement an 11% across the board increase, a three-year moratorium on retrenchments and outsourcing, and six months’ paid maternity leave.  Solidarity and the SA Communication Workers’ Union have agreed to a deal that will see no salary increases in this financial year, in favour of the implementation of a performance pay system.
