EWN reports that the Democratic Nursing Organisation of SA (Denosa) says it will give government more time to outline safety measures for its members working in vulnerable areas.
The union has accordingly suspended its deadline to withdraw some of its members working in remote areas of KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) after an initial deadline of 31 August. The union’s initial statement came shortly after the hijacking and abandonment of three female nurses in a remote area in Empangeni last month. Provincial secretary Cassim Lekhoathi now indicated: “It is our view that we want to give the process a chance so that we can hear what they have to say in terms of what plans and measures are they going to take to ensure and also guarantee that our members are safe.”
