BDLive reports that according to a new survey released on Thursday, record numbers of employees are staying in their jobs rather than looking for new ones amid concern about weak economic growth.  

The survey by insight and technology company CEB’s Global Talent Monitor showed that levels of intent to stay at a current job rose five points to a six-year high of 36% in the second quarter.  With SA’s unemployment rate at the highest level in eight years and a severe slowdown in main sectors, pessimism prevailed across the workforce and perceptions of job opportunities dropped nearly 5% below the global average.  But, employees staying in their jobs did not mean they were giving their all.  Levels of discretionary effort, historically higher in SA than in other countries, were now at the lowest point since the end of 2014.
