Cape Talk reports that with wage negotiations between Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Company (TMACC) and staff at an impasse, a strike commenced on Wednesday.
Staff affiliated to the SA Commercial, Catering and Allied Workers’ Union (Saccawu) are demanding a 15% salary increase, while the company is offering 9%. On Wednesday morning, protesters were reportedly blocking access to the cableway on Tafelberg Road. Police on the scene were turning visitors away, while redirecting traffic. According to Collette Van Aswegen of TMACC, staff who were not affiliated to Saccawu were at work and the company was ready to open as soon as calm was restored.
