BDLive reports that the platinum sector could avoid a protracted wage strike as occurred in 2014 with good progress being made in current talks about pay increases.  

So said Joseph Mathunjwa, president of the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (Amcu), on the sidelines of the Joburg Indaba.  The talks could be concluded this month, he said, adding that they have been “constructive and objective” and that lessons had been learnt in the failed 2013 talks that resulted in a five-month shutdown of platinum mines around Rustenburg.  Chris Griffith, CEO of Anglo American Platinum, said the parties were not "too far from settling" and that he was "comfortable" with the progress.
