The Citizen reports that the battle to replace President Jacob Zuma as ANC leader took another turn on Thursday with the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) weighing in again.
The union warned that the election of outgoing chairperson of the African Union, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, as leader next year would be seen as a “family affair”. This week, the SA Communist Party echoed similar sentiments saying the ruling party was not Zuma’s dynasty. The NUM, Cosatu’s largest affiliate, has officially endorsed Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa to take over from Zuma. General secretary David Sipunzi hit out at those who believed Ramaphosa was not the right man for the top job and said the union would lobby ANC other structures and members to rally behind Ramaphosa.
