strike thumb medium85 85BusinessLive reports that tobacco group Philip Morris International has suspended production at its strike-hit Boksburg factory on Gauteng’s East Rand as a precautionary measure.

Workers have been on strike for more than a month demanding a 10% pay rise.  The company says its 8.5% pay offer is substantial, given challenging economic conditions.  Workers claimed on Wednesday that security guards attacked and shot at them, but company spokeswoman Rupini Bergstrom denied the company had called the security firm.  The guards allegedly involved apparently accompanied trucks belonging to a logistics company.
