Netwerk24 reports that the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (Amcu) says that this week it will put forward its “full and final” package of wage increases and other improvements in respect of the platinum sector.
It is expected that the union, which enjoys majority status at Anglo American Platinum, Impala Platinum and Lonmin, will retain its demand for a monthly minimum wage of R12,500. Joseph Mathunjwa, president of Amcu, said: We have a full mandate from our members at the mines and we are recognised as the union with the majority of members.” Meanwhile, the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM), which represents a minority of workers at the platinum producers, announced that it is demanding a 20% increase for all mineworkers.
