BusinessLive reports that the National Union of Metalworkers of SA (Numsa) is waiting for a date to be given by the CCMA to submit argument that all staff at PetroSA should receive a bonus this year.
The union said it was prepared to strike on the issue. Despite a loss of R14.5bn at the cash-strapped state-owned company, 11 bosses received bonuses totalling more than R17m, while other staff members received no bonuses at all. Workers at the company have flocked to Numsa to continue their campaign for bonus parity, thereby ditching the Chemical Energy Paper Printing Wood and Allied Workers’ Union (Ceppwawu) in droves. The former Ceppwawu chairman at PetroSA, Zolani Tyatya, is now the Numsa chairman at the firm. Workers at PetroSA have formed a committee to draw up a memorandum of 1,500 signatures. According to Tyatya, they have already collected 600 signatures. Last year PetroSA retrenched nearly 250 workers. Its plan is to cut its 1,800-strong workforce by 40%.
